Special Interview: Illimat with Keith Baker and Jenn Ellis

We sit down with Keith Baker and Jenn Ellis of Twogether Studios to discuss their upcoming game, Illimat. Long referred to as Project 12, Illimat is a beautiful collaboration with the band, The Decemberists. Once upon a time, the band put a strange piece of set dressing into a photo shoot—an intriguing and arcane parlour game plucked out of an earlier age. Years later, the band approached Keith to see if he could make a game from the mysterious board and Illimat was born!

Blending classic card game mechanics with the Decemberists’ other wordly vibe, Illimat feels like a relic of a time gone by. During the interview we delve into the unusual request of designing from a component and how Illimat evolved from its humble four quadrants. We also learn some insider knowledge about the upcoming Kickstarter, launching October 4th, to fund the publishing of the game.

Join us as we uncover the mysterious Illimat!

Teaming up with 12 game designers, they are unleashing a Postcard Game series based on classic cult movies. When Tagmire isn’t teaming up with other designers to publish their games, he’s teaming up with other publishers to design for them. We had a great time digging into comparing big publisher versus the very small, designing to intentional constraints and much more!

This week we were fortunate to sit down and chat with James Ernest, master game designer and founder of Cheapass Games. We figured it was a good time to talk, since James is currently Kickstarting the 19.5th Anniversary Edition of Kill Doctor Lucky. However we were also sure to find out the latest on Tak, the upcoming abstract strategy game based on the Kingkiller Trilogy by Patrick Rothfuss, as well as talk about the ambitious Titans of Gaming series by Calliope Games.

While we talked about specific games, make sure to listen in for the most prolific one-man-game-studio ever discuss his thoughts on publishing, the changing games market, and his schedule which is so jam packed he can’t even take time to juggle. How sad is that?

Plus, it’s the start of a new era! James is our first contestant on “The Three!”

Special Interview — Shari Spiro

Where do I even start with reviewing all the awesome things Shari Spiro is involved with?

First, she is the founder of Ad Magic. They have printed many great board games including the upcoming Exploding Kittens and Cards Against Humanity. She also has helped Cards Against Humanity pull off some of their greatest coups like pwnmeal – the extreme gaming oatmeal? You might also recognize her from her time as a judge on Tabletop Deathmatch?

Recently, Ad Magic has expanded to game publishing with their new arm: Breaking Games. In their first stable of releases, they already have a Mensa Seal Select winner on their hands: Letter Tycoon! Not to mention kickstarter favorites: Billionaire Banshee and Funemployed (see also our interview with Anthony Conta).

As you can tell, this is a VERY interesting interview with lots of great stories! Trust me when I tell you, you don’t want to miss it!
